Recommendations for Alicia

June 6, 2023

June 13th we have an opportunity to elect a talented, competent mom of 2 who will bring a wealth of policy experience and lived knowledge to our School Board. Alicia Johnson has dedicated her life to supporting children and teachers. As the VP of Fundraising, she helped raise over $300k for Oakland public schools and held school in her home when the teachers went on strike in 2019 so parents could still go to work. As a newer resident to Falmouth, she’s had the opportunity to experience Falmouth schools with fresh eyes. Her life experiences and diverse family will add a unique point of view that Falmouth needs. She will be an inclusive and competent voice on the School Board. That’s why I’m voting for, and encouraging our town to support Alicia Johnson for Falmouth School Board.

Falmouth schools have a history of excellence. This requires leaders who listen, work hard to understand the needs of our students and are committed to be an inclusive voice. This is why I’m voting for Alicia Johnson for Falmouth School Board. She has executive experience working for  the Mayor of San Jose, CA (the 10th largest city in the country), and clearly understands the role of setting policy and working with budgets. She has worked her whole life in service to her community, including helping to found  a group that advocated for public education in Oakland, CA. Alicia was a fierce supporter for teachers there when they went on strike in 2019. She has shown her commitment to be a voice for what makes our schools the best they can be.

Alicia brings a diverse view to the table that Falmouth schools will greatly benefit from. She wants to see each child succeed and leave school prepared to be a productive, community-minded member of society. She will be a great addition to our School Board and I look forward to casting my vote for her on June 13th.

Hi, Friends:

I'm taking the liberty of contacting you to introduce my friend, Alicia Johnson, who is running for the Falmouth School Board in the election to be held on June 13.  Alicia is sorta new in town;  hence, her name might not be so familiar, and this is my means of introducing you to her.  When I heard earlier this year that there were openings on the school board, I immediately thought of and reached out to Alicia, because I knew how deeply involved she was in her previous hometown of Oakland, California.  While there, there was a movement to drive funding away from public schools toward charter schools, and Alicia was instrumental in funding was prioritized for public schools over charter schools.  In addition, when the teachers in Oakland went on strike, Alicia organized lessons for children from ages 6 to 13, and her home became a "strike school" where parents could bring their children for care and learning, and to deter others from crossing the picket line.   (I've attached an article that was featured in the Oakland newspaper about Alicia and the "strike school.")  My impression of Alicia is that she is strong in her beliefs in support of teachers and public education, but she's also kind and gracious enough to disagree without being disagreeable. She is one of the three candidates on the ballot for school board on June 13th.
